jurassic enviroNment

PROJECT SUMMARY

I explored different dinosaurs in different habitats on an island in a low-poly scene. The project involved various pipelines of animation production such as Storyboarding, Modeling, Rigging, Animation, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering. The animation was done by Claudine David. It was interesting and quite an experience to dive into the other aspects of the pipeline that was outside my specialization. Although the dinosaurs were animated by a friend I learned a lot from her process and workflow.

stonehenge enviroNment

PROJECT SUMMARY

A historical landmark like Stonehenge was a great way to learn how to setup an outdoor scene with minimal props. Setting up the scene was a challenge because it is a real-life space, so I had to make the decision to make it look easily recognizable as Stonehenge but not have the exact rock placements. Lighting the scene was also a challenge because it was outdoors, so there was less direct lighting and finding the right settings for global illumination.

TOWER ENVIRONMENT

PROJECT SUMMARY

The medieval era is a personal favorite, most especially its architecture. I wanted to explore making a small cottage with a lookout tower in the middle of a forest. This allowed me to work on realistic textures, exteriors, and interiors, along with time period-specific props.

RIGS

PROJECT SUMMARY

The low-poly dinosaur rigs in the Jurassic environment scene tested my knowledge and understanding of rigging. I used a lot of references from others who had made dinosaur rigs on Youtube and from the movie Jurassic Park. The most challenging part was painting the weights so it deforms properly. Despite being tedious, I learned a lot about how skeletal structures affect skin movement and muscle deformation.

PIG AND WOLF RIGS

PROJECT SUMMARY

The pig and wolf rigs were made for a short animated film about the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. The animals were anthropomorphic so they had humanoid rigs. The main difference between their rigs and a human rig are that they have fewer fingers, ear controls, and a tail.

For the project, I was responsible for creating, testing, and inspecting the body rigs, while another member of the rigging team was responsible for the face rig and its controls.

PROJECT SUMMARY

I experimented with an octopus rig to get a deeper understanding of joints.

I also experimented with particle systems and colliders.

Zombie Head

PROJECT SUMMARY

This Zombie head was my first model. Using a profile and side view reference image, I learned how to polygon model an object. I learned a lot about the importance of topology, edgeflow, and good modeling practices like avoiding ngons, and maintaining quads.

Candle

PROJECT SUMMARY

I created this candle to experiment with creating fire and smoke in Maya.
